GADAG: BJP, which has swept all the previous elections, including those held for assembly and Parliament by defeating its nearest rival Congress, has once again emerged victorious in ZP elections in the district. Of the 18 seats, BJP has won 11 seats, while Congress won the rest.
The election was indeed a challenge for the BJP to show its strength in the absence of minister Sriramulu.
It was equally challenging for Congress too, particularly for senior leader H K Patil to show his influence in the district.
With the win, BJP has ended the winning streak of Congress which ruled the ZP ever since the
panchayat system came into existence.
Patil, wanted to prove his mettle by bringing Congress back to power. But he suffered setback once again, that is after losing council and assembly elections.
